Service and technology providers

Privacy policy add-on

On this page you will find in-depth information about the service and technology providers used on this website. Adding even more details to the privacy policy.

Intro to cookies

Let me start by introducing browser cookies. A browser cookie is a small text file -often with an anonymous unique identifier- placed on your machine to help the site provide a better user experience. As a rule, cookies will make your browsing experience better. However, you may prefer to disable cookies on this site, and on others. You can achieve this by disabling cookies in your browser. Or by installing a browser extension such as this one.

The service and technology providers

1. Cookie consent

The Cookie Consent Banner is provided by DAEXT.

Cookies and personal information

If you visit my website, the cookie consent banner is shown. As soon as you click ‘Cookies? Yummy!‘ a cookie named ‘daextlwcnf-accepted’ with value ‘1’ will be placed on your machine. It prevents the banner to pop-up on each page load and is stored for 365 days on your device.

The cookie doesn’t include any unique identifier. The sole purpose is to store your cookie consent.

2. Web analytics

For web analytics Mamoto (formerly PiwiK) is used.

Cookies and personal information

Matomo is an open source web analytics platform used to measure, collect, analyze and report visitors data for purposes of understanding and optimizing my website. Matomo’s privacy policy can be found here.

Matomo will place a cookie named ‘MATOMO_SESSID’ and ‘_pk_*’ on your machine. Some of these cookies contain an unique identifier. Using this technology I am able to capture and store meta information about your visit. I store this data for a maximum period of 13 months in a (EU) data center via my hosting provider. This includes -but is not limited to- your location based on your IP address, date and time of the visit, title/url of the pages being viewed, screen resolution, main language and user agent of the browser.

For web analytics I use ‘implied consent’. But you can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking here. There will be no consequences at all regarding the use of this website.

3. Contact form

The contact form is provided by Form7.

Cookies and personal information

Form7 stores user input data (name, email, phone number, subject, message) sent through the contact forms on this website. Along with meta information about the submissions. This includes the time stamp, the origin IP address, and the user agent (browser). Please check their privacy policy for all the details.

The contact form doesn’t place any cookies on your machine.

4. Blog comments

The blog pages are provided by WordPress.

Cookies and personal information

When you leave comments on the site the data in the comments form is collected. Your IP address and browser user agent string is used to help spam detection, but is not stored. Also an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here.

After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. And will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, a temporary cookie is set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, several cookies are setup to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. As soon as you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Media used in comments

If you upload images to a website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors can download and extract any location data from images on websites. So I recommend to remove the location data. Should you forget to remove this, no worries. I will periodically remove them automatically (approx. every 4-8 weeks).

5. Embedded content from other websites

My website may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, fonts, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website. Please be aware that I have no control over the content and practices of these sites. Therefore, I strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of these websites (as you do this one, clearly).

6. Web hosting

Whenever you visit a website, information is send by your browser to a web server. The technology provider captures and stores this data in so-called server logs. These server logs may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser version, the time and date of your visit, and other statistics. My web hosting provider (in the Netherlands) has access to these log files exclusively for enabling their services.

7. Do not sell policy

I don’t sell nor share any personal information publicly, or with third-parties. Except for the service and technology providers specified on this page, or in case explicitly required to by law.
